LEPC handbook

Mission

Our mission is to help our citizens, industry and local emergency responders prepare for all hazards by developing partnerships through comprehensive community programs that include the development of emergency response plans, implementation of plan excercises, and involvement in public education programs.

Overview
Each county in Kansas is expected to have a Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC), comprised of emergency response agencies, hospitals, industries, and community groups.

Responsibilities
Some of an LEPC's primary responsibilities include:

  • Preparing and regularly reviewing their jurisdiction's Emergency Operations Plan, as well as coordinating training exercises for stakeholders on the Plan
  • Collecting information on hazardous materials stored throughout the county
  • Analyzing potential risks to the community
  • Evaluating the adequacy of warning systems and evacuation procedures (as they relate to hazardous material spills / releases)
  • Promoting the community right-to-know law to the public and provide educational materials / resources to the community

SARA TITLE III Community Right to Know. 

Hazardous Substance Information

Section 324 of the Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act, also known as SARA TITLE IIi (Super-fund Amendments and Reauthorization Act of 1986, PL99-499) requires public notice at least annually informing the public of the means to access information about extremely hazardous substances that are manufactured, stored, and used within their community.

Information regarding extememly hazardous substances manufactured, stored or used within Wilson County can be obtained during normal business hours by contacting Wilson County Emergency Management, 421 N 7th, Fredonia KS. (620)378-4455.
